Division Leaders
Eight divisions · Eight leadersHow the Index Works
The method, in briefPerformance
True lift weight, range, capacity and motor power — from the maker's own documents, not the brochure headline.
Accountability
Warranty schedule, return window, and a published support phone and email. Commitments a maker can be held to.
Satisfaction
The chair's own verified buyer ratings, in aggregate — never a review borrowed from a sibling model.
Value
What the verified specification costs against the rest of its division.
Notes From the Desk
Reading the standingsThe lightest number on the page is rarely the chair
Makers quote weight without batteries, sometimes without the seat. Our tables print the maker's own documented figure and say what it excludes — a 25 lb frame with a 3 lb battery is a 28 lb lift.
Range is a best day, not every day
Published range assumes a light rider, flat ground and a warm battery. Hills, cold and capacity all spend it faster. We rank on the maker's figure because it is the only common yardstick — and say so.
Warranty length is a quality signal
A five-year frame warranty is a maker betting its own money on its engineering. Short warranties on expensive chairs cost points in this index, every time.
Questions, Answered
FAQWhat are Index Points?
Every chair is scored out of 10 in its division and converted to Index Points out of 1,000 — a chair scored 9.7 carries 970 points. Points let the whole field be read on one scale, the way a market index reads a whole exchange.
How is a chair's score decided?
Four factors: performance (true weight, range, capacity, motor), owner satisfaction (the chair's own verified buyer ratings), value (spec-for-price against its division), and accountability (warranty terms, return window, and whether the maker publishes a real support phone and email). The full method is published on the Method page.
Why does the same chair appear in several divisions?
A folding travel chair legitimately competes in both the Folding and Travel standings. Each division scores the chair against that division's rivals, so its points can differ slightly between tables.
Do makers pay for placement?
No. Positions follow the published method only. Some outbound links are affiliate links, which pay this site a commission — they never change a score.
How current are prices and specs?
Standings on this page were verified at publication from manufacturers' own documents and retailer listings. Prices move; check the retailer's page for the figure you'll actually pay.
